As of 2002-05-01, it is required to provide an abstract when submitting a draft standard to ITTF for FDIS ballot and/or publication. Note, however, that it is not necessary to provide abstracts for standards which are to be published as common text with ITU-T, as the ITU summary will be used for that purpose.

Abstracts shall be drafted in accordance with the specification given below. The Abstract(2000) template shall be used when abstracts are prepared using a word-processing software.
