ISO TC/176/SC2 Home Page


ISO's Technical Committee no.176, Sub-committee no.2 (ISO/TC 176/SC 2) is responsible for the development of the ISO 9001 and ISO 9004 International Standards as well as other International Standards and documents in the ISO 9000 Family.

 

ISO/TC 176/SC 2 has been granted the following “scope” for its activities by ISO/TC 176:

 

“Standardization in the field of generic quality systems and quality methodologies, including standards which provide guidance on the selection, application and use of these standards.”



           

The Secretariat of ISO/TC 176/SC 2 is provided by the British Standards Institution (BSI).

1. ISO/TC 176/SC 2 current activities

2. Advice and information on ISO 9001 and ISO 9004

Since the publication of ISO 9001 and ISO 9004, ISO/TC 176/SC2 has been developing and periodically releasing supporting guidance documents to assist users of these standards.  These guidance documents have been collected into an 'Introduction and Support Package' and are further supplemented by a set of 'frequently asked questions'. Additionally, 'Implementation Guidance' has been developed to support the advent of the new edition of ISO 9001.

 3. In Search of Sustainable Success

This site is intended for an organization's management and its purpose is to provide information and guidance on the use of improvement methodologies, based on the ISO 9001:2008 requirements standard and the ISO 9004:2009 guidelines. This will help organizations to make their journey towards the ultimate goal of 'sustained success' - achieving and maintaining their long-term objectives.

4.  Interpretations of ISO 9001

ISO/TC 176/SC2 provides a service to give formal interpretations of ISO 9001; however ISO/TC 176/SC2 will only accept requests for interpretations from ISO's Member Bodies (e.g. National Standards Bodies or recognized Liaison organizations). Individual users needing an interpretation should make enquiries with their Member Body in the first instance (for the listing of National Standards Bodies please see: http://www.iso.org/iso/about/iso_members.htm).

 

The interpretations provided will only seek to clarify the principles behind identified requirements in the standard; they will not provide guidance on how the requirements should be applied to an organization's particular situation.
